Using light therapy to treat amputation wounds

In most cases, an amputation wound closes and creates a scar within three to four weeks, but in some cases healing may be slower, with inflammation and oozing occurring. The full healing of the scar will take approximately 18 months. During this period, appropriate creams and dressings should be used to help the scar tissue stay soft and supple.

Accelerating the healing process of amputation wounds and helping to minimise scarring can be achieved with the use of red and infrared light therapy.

How will light therapy help treat amputation wounds?

Photizo Skincare will help to trigger natural cellular photo-biochemical reactions in the skin and will assist in:

  • Cleaning up dead cells
  • Increasing microcirculation and formation of new capillaries
  • Boosting collagen production
  • Reducing inflammation and swelling
  • Reducing pain.
